If you have further ideas or input I'm happy to hear them :) Krievu cūkas I will manually remove your hacked entries in this case, but please consider it an exception, further cheated scores will result in the shadow-ban as mentioned above. We're looking at possibly automating this process, for now rest assured leaderboards are actively monitored, if you see cheated scores they will generally be removed within 24 hours and the offending player will no longer appear on the leaderboards. It only takes us a few minutes to identify and ban a player, since when there' s a leaderboard entry the game also submits the savefile associated with the entry, and if the savefile doesn't solve the level with the same budget as the leaderboard entry the player will most likely get banned. This means that a hacker will still see their own scores in-game, leading them to believe they have 'cheated' the system and are ranked #1, while in reality they have been banned and their score isn't shown to anyone except them. What we did therefore is one of the few reliable solutions, which is a type of shadow-banning (also referred to as hell-banning), which will remove the scores of offending players client-side when showing the scores/ranks to other players. You will notice that any game that uses Steam leaderboards suffer from the same issue of hackers.

Steam Leaderboards are a great service both for developers and players, but currently do not support any kind of server-side verification. We can look at improving the client-side obfuscation of high scores when submitting, but the reality is that since the leaderboards are hosted on Steam, there are multiple ways of hacking your way into them, even to the point of injecting leaderboard entries without even using the game. Those are from earlier patches and the glitches don't work anymore. (You will find some gifs displaying $0 when they clearly used money, or building bridges while the car is running. Don't just assume everyone with a lower score than you is cheating. Check the gallery for inspiration and to see some of the amazing contraptions people build to save a few dollars. Getting good flips still requires a lot of work.Įven if you don't like flipping the cars, you can still get top 10 positions on the leaderboards using other techniques for most levels. It certainly doesn't make it trivial to get or tie the record on all levels.

The game runs on a certain set of rules and anything within those rules can and should be used to set the highscores. Personally I think there is nothing wrong using such a thing. The most controversial technique is dropping a road piece from very high to flip cars over the river. Then you can click on the name to filter for gifs by that player on other levels. Most likely one of the first few solutions will be by Eunice. You can look for those by using the ingame gallery: Choose some level, filter for wins only and sort by budget. They are not cheated, just using creative methods to solve the level.
