Someone a long time ago mentioned on this sub something that I think is important to keep in mind: Chow is not a tank that deals damage - he is a tanky damage dealer. You can probably surprise someone with a well runed violent Laika on GWD if they're not expecting it, but overall he is relatively easy to deal with and there are better users of good violent sets. Laika is more niche and while he certainly isn't bottom tier, there are better monsters than him. Chow is overall a decent monster with some valid use at guardian level. Overall I'd say chow is very slightly better, but I could see the argument going the other way. Despite all this I'd say they're pretty close in usefulness in each area. I don't do RTA, but from what I've seen Chow is situationally good there and Laika has rarely been seen since he got hit by the nerf bat. That doesn't mean chow is bad on GWO, I use mine a decent bit in siege at least, but Laika has more general uses and is easier to build since not many monsters use Vamp runes. IMO Chow is just a worse Camilla on GWO because she can tank much more damage while dishing out similar amounts. You can tank a big single hit water nuke like Mo Long's 3rd and not even be close to death, and he works no matter the opposing team's elements. On GWO/Siege offense I think I'd rather have Laika on my team though. So if you run Laika on AD with fire mons or water nem healers you get fucked by Alicia, and if you run him with wind monsters you struggle with Lushens. For AO Alicia 3rd can kill him and he doesn't really deter Lushens due to generally being low HP and amp being 3 hits. You can tank Laika infinitely with a Garo or can just 1shot him with a Stella in GW and they're both very common units. Chow can heal for like 40k hp while killing a monster all in 1 turn without setup if the opponent gets some procs, but Laika only gets 1 attack off a turn and it generally won't 1 shot you. If I'm attacking a GWD/AD I think Chow can be scary while Laika is generally not a problem. Just FYI I own Chow and not Laika so my view may be a tiny bit biased:
